NAMA OneShow 2013 – In Pictures

Zytronic CEO Mark Cambridge and Sales & Marketing Director Ian Crosby attended the NAMA One Show in Las Vegas for this first time this April, looking forward to seeing pioneering interactive vending machines on display. Rest assured this won’t be Zytronic’s last visit to the vending show.

The event, hosted by the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) is the number one Expo in the world for the vending and refreshments services industry, providing a fantastic platform for industry leaders to share best practices and debut new and innovative products.

In 2009, we partnered with The Coca-Cola Company on their new beverage dispensing platform, the Coca-Cola Freestyle™. The Freestyle™ dispenser utilizes innovative technology to dispense 100 different branded sparkling and still beverages from a single freestanding unit.

The Coca-Cola Freestyle™ incorporated a customised touch sensor based on our patented Projected Capacitive Touch Technology which work through an overlying material facilitating a design without the need for a display bezel, which is both stylish and hygienic. 4) Pepsi social vending machine

It even takes a photo and emails it to you. The new vending machines take advantage of NFC (near field communications), touch-screens, an Intel® Core™ i7 processor, and vPro technology.

Zytronic visit Japan for RetailTech 2013

As a major global economy and a technological innovator, Japan represents a great market for our products.

At the beginning of March, our Sales & Marketing Director Ian Crosby spent a few days with our local partner Minato, in and around Tokyo.

Pictured below is a group of Digital Signage touchscreens featuring our 46” ZYBRID sensors installed in public information displays set up in an outdoor concourse of the Yamanote line in Tokyo. The Yamanote Line is a circular line which connects Tokyo's major commercial centres, and as a result sees a huge number of commuters and tourists using it every day. The new screens will provide visitors to the stations with helpful information in a variety of languages.

During Ian’s time in Tokyo, he also visited RetailTech Japan in which a number of Zytronic touchscreens were on show in a variety of customer units. The exhibition is Japan’s largest tradeshow specialising in retail technology for point of sale and digital signage / point of information systems.

One of the example of Zytronic technology on display at RetailTech was a 19” printed ZYBRID touchscreen used in a queue management kiosk made by one of our Scandinavian clients, Qmatic.

The kiosk can be used to communicate with customers to improve both the service level and efficiency in various locations, such as reception areas, government offices and hospitals. The kiosk can either be placed on a floor pedestal or on a combined table/wall stand.

Next up was a 46” ZYBRID sensor operating through a protective cover glass, which was installed in an outdoor digital signage kiosk demonstrated at the Arunas stand.

As well as point of sale and queue management demonstrations for the retail sector, a number of companies were exhibiting high tech touchscreen vending machines on show. Pictured below, is a concept vending machine on show at the Intel stand. Zytronic is already engaged in a number of similar projects – some case studies of which can already be seen on our website.

ISE2013 Event Roundup

At the 10th Annual ISE Exhibition held at the Amsterdam RAI between 29-31st January this year, Zytronic showcased their amazing new Multi Touch PCT™ (Projected Capacitive Technology) in a 55” touch table specially prepared for the event.

With a complete edge-to-edge glass surface with no frames or bezels, the sleek design the table unsurprisingly drew a lot of attention at ISE. On hand to assist with demonstrations, our Sales and Marketing Director Ian Crosby commented:

New Multi-Touch PCT and Curved Touch Capability Electrify Attendees at Electronica 2012

At the 25^th International Trade Fair for Electronic Components, Systems and Applications, Zytronic impressed attendees with the new multi-touch Project Capacitive Touch Technology and Curved Touch Capability

Our exhibition stand featuring large form factor, customised touch sensors delivering 10-point multi-touch functionality, was a huge crowd pleaser and received lots of attention and excellent feedback.

The event took place at the Messe Munchen in the chilly but beautiful city of Munich, played host to hundreds of exhibitors, and we were delighted to welcome many of our key European distributors to the Zytronic stand including Camax, Iberhermes, Elatec, MSC Gleichmann, Eurocomposant and EG Electronics.

To show off the outstanding performance of the new multi touch PCT screens, we used application software from Nuiteq (Snowflake )and Omnivision (Omnitapps) as well as demonstrating the plug-and play capability of the new ZXY200 multitouch controller with the forthcoming Windows 8 operating system.

The event was a fantastic opportunity to network with other industry experts, and multiple meetings were arranged with European electronics industry press to brief them on the company’s latest developments.

Thanks go to our fantastic team who managed the stand throughout: Sales Managers Gregg Brown, Sue Jordon and Martin Slater, plus help from Mark Cambridge our CEO and Dr Andrew Morrison – Technical Director. With their support, the event was a huge success for Zytronic and we ended the event with a substantial number of inquiries and excellent feedback. Zytronic Touch Screens Dazzle at the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas 2012

Casino-entertainment professionals from across the globe headed to Las Vegas for the annual Global Gaming Expo this October. With the quick paced nature of the gaming industry, it’s crucial that they remain at the forefront of the latest trends and insights that the industry has to offer. The incredible exhibits and expertise on offer at G2E makes in an invaluable and must attend event.

Our CEO Mark Cambridge and Sales & Marketing Director Ian Crosby attended G2E this year and spotted an array of Zytronic touch screens on show at the exhibition. Below we have included a snap shot of our products and some other gaming platforms that stood out at the Expo.

This is the SporTVision table made by our Australian customer, Transcity who are design and manufacturing specialists. The table currently uses a 46” printed Zybrid sensor, but we are working with Transcity on a multi-touch version to launch at the ICE Gaming Show in London next year. The Shufflemaster “iTable” uses printed 10.4” Zybrid touch sensors embedded in a multiplayer card table. Utilising six, networked touch-enabled player displays, plus an additional dealer station, the i-Table combines a feature-rich, highly efficient and intuitive electronic betting interface with the human interaction of a live dealer. These photos are of Aristocrat’s ‘Verve’ cabinet which featuring a very large projected capacitive touchscreen. Finally, here is a photo our team took at G2E of Ainsworth Gaming Technology’s new “A560” slant top cabinet with a 24” touch screen. As with the other products featuring at the Global Gaming Expo this year, the A560 it is yet another example of a tough, yet beautiful touch screen design.

Zytronic Touchscreens perform well on the “Mean Streets” of Moscow

On a recent business trip to Moscow, our Sales & Marketing Director Ian Crosby spotted a number of our screens being used in various public touchscreen and interactive signage applications.

This badly vandalised payment kiosk is a great example of level of punishment that our touchscreens can withstand whilst continuing to operate... Moscow’s harsh winters mean that the outdoor deployed screens have to reliably function when temperatures can be below -20ºC. As can be seen, the abuse the kiosks receive on the streets of Russian capital can also be extreme. Graffiti and violent defacement all put our touchscreens to the test. However this payment kiosk was working with no problems, even though the sacrificial glass covering the 17” Zybrid touch sensor was smashed, the screen was dirty and defaced and it was raining heavily. An incredible testament to the durability of our PCT technology!

Interactive bus stops, like the one featured in the photo above are beginning to be installed along the main thoroughfares - in this case, leading to Moscow’s iconic Red Square. The touchscreen was being used for an interactive advert campaign by Proctor & Gamble - in this case, for Lipton Ice Tea. Similar screens are being deployed for public information and wayfinders in transport hubs and shopping areas.

The 46” projected capacitive touch screen here was mounted behind (and working through) ~5mm of protective glass. Another great example of how large format PCT touch screens are increasingly being used to engage with the public in challenging environments.

We also observed a bank of ticket machines being used within the Kiyevsky Rail Terminal in Moscow’s City Centre. The ticket terminals were built using our 17” touch screens featuring our patented Projected Capacitive Technology with its powerful through-glass performance. Manufacturers of ticket machines used in public transportation have relied upon PCT’s unrivalled levels of durability and reliability for many years.

Zytronic’s touch technology is proven in these types of unattended self-service application around the world.

Large Customised Zytronic Touch Sensors Selected to Provide Interactivity to Japanese Civic Information System

Zytronic Projected Capacitive Touch Screen Technology in Operation at Self-Service Petrol Dispensers in Korea

During a recent business trip to Korea, our Asian Regional Sales Manager, Mark Perry, stopped for fuel and took some shots of our ZYBRID® touch sensors in operation on a number of self-service petrol dispensers.

It was raining heavily at the time, but the screens worked faultlessly, reaffirming the suitability of our PCT™ screens in such demanding weather conditions.

The touchscreens are being increasingly deployed by several manufacturers of self-service dispensers, including Korean #1 Dong Hwa Prime's advanced “Merit” unit which has proved reliable through several years continued use in the countries cold winters and hot, humid summers. The self-service system also incorporates other innovations such as a built-in security camera, and uses the ZYBRID® touchscreen to integrate all controls into a single, quick and easy to use customer interface for fuel selection and payment.

On the Zytronic booth were a variety of touch sensor designs showcasing PCT™’s unparalleled levels of durability, scalability and customisation options. Also on show were several of the new 10-point Multi Touch PCT™ screens, up to 46” in size.

Our Sales and Marketing Director Ian Crosby introduced this latest development at Display Week during the Exhibitors Forum, in a presentation titled "Ultra-Large-Format Multi-Touch Projected-Capacitive Touch Sensors for Public Use".

Our Technical Director, Dr Andrew Morrison provided more details on the technology and the issues surrounding the development of very large p-cap sensors in a presentation at the "Future of Touch Interactivity" conference which ran concurrent with Display Week, in a paper entitles“The Challenge of Scaling Multi touch Projected Capacitive Sensors to Ultra Large Sizes”

Following an assessment by BSI, the internationally respected independent third party standards assessment group, Zytronic are very pleased to announce that we have been awarded the ISO 14001:2004 in recognition of our Environmental Management System.

This well-deserved and prestigious award affirms that Zytronic operates an Environmental Management System which complies with the requirements of ISO 14001:2004 in respect of our manufacture and supply of all of our products, including our award winning range of PCT™ projected capacitive touch sensors.

What is the ISO 14001?

ISO 14001 is an internationally accepted standard that establishes the guidelines for operating an effective Environmental Management System (EMS). Zytronic’s rugged yet sensitive Zybrid sensors provide touch interactivity to the “kid-proof” portable tablet computers developed by display solutions specialist, Melford Electronics. Visitors to the amazing interactive experience entitled “Who Do You Think You Really Are?” use the screens to rotate three-dimensional images, view augmented reality animation, take photographs, navigate through detailed information and take part in quizzes and games.

ScreenMedia Expo 2012 Roundup

The ScreenMedia Expo which took place in London’s impressive Earls Court Conference Centre over 2 days in June did not fail to deliver this year. The event featured an array of interactive digital signage products with a number of our customers exhibiting applications featuring Zytronic’s Projected Capacitive Technology (PCT^TM).

Our Sales Manager Gregg Brown who was at the event commented: “the show had an excellent feel. It was great to see so many varied applications using interactivity this year. Our (Zytronic’s) ability to produce larger format Projective Capacitive Touch screens makes digital signage a key market for the future”. On Harp Visual’s stand, they were showcasing a brand new visual communication product which is a great interactive digital signage application using our Projected Capacitive touch sensor technology.

Also featuring on Harp Visual’s stand was this impressive large format digital signage application using a Zytronic PCT^TM touchscreen.

Another example from the Screenmedia Expo was this London Underground digital signage system using Zytronic’s display glass.

Our UK Sales Manager will be heading to London this month for the Screen Media Expo which is held over 2 days in the Earls Court Exhibition Centre.

The Digital Screenmedia, Marketing and Technology Show is dedicated European leading event covering digital signage, digital out of home and digital place based media.

Typically based around large LCD’s or projection systems, “dynamic” digital screens are increasingly replacing traditional “static” billboard style signs to place advertising into public gathering areas, such as shopping malls, transportation hubs and the high street. To engage with potential customers, gather vital information on consumer preference and tailor products to meet market demand, advertisers are increasingly adding interactivity to these screens.

Parkeon Showcase Ticket Payment Terminal using Zytronic PCT at Parkex 2012 Exhibition

Parkex, Europe’s largest dedicated trade Parking Exhibition organised on behalf of the British Parking Association took place this year in London at the National Hall, Olympia. Over 2 days in April, Gregg Brown our Sales Manager for UK, Ireland, Benelux and South Africa attended the event looking to introduce attendees and exhibitors to our robust PCT™ (Projective Capacitive Technology).

Companies exhibiting this year included our customer Parkeon, who were showcasing our technology at the event with their CITYPAL parking solution. The CITYPAL features an intuitive user interface featuring a 7” colour touch screen, which is easy to use with screen icons guiding users through the process. The touch screen was created with our PCT™ touch sensor technology which is extremely robust and ruggedized.

Point of Sale (POS) touch screen terminals have been available for many years – usually behind the counter in shops and restaurants. However, the trend towards self-service for reasons of cost and convenience mean that such terminals are now being deployed in a wide variety of public-facing applications both indoors and outdoors. As a result, the latest generation of touch enabled POS kiosks require a touch technology to operate reliably in all environments and PCT™ facilitates this.

Gregg Brown who attended the event said “in general the event highlighted how few parking/ticketing terminals currently use touch screen technology. A lot of the people I spoke to were either not aware that a touch screen could be made tough enough for the types of outdoor, unsupervised environments that the terminals are typically deployed in. It means we have some way to go to educate this market sector on the benefits of our technology. With touch displays becoming part our everyday life, I believe it’s a matter of time before we start to see more terminals like these fitted with ruggedised touch screens.

The event itself was small but as most companies there were hardware manufacturers it proved useful for us. Getting to speak direct to the manufacturers themselves instead of only distributors etc is always a bonus.”
