Interactive touch technology brings a new dimension to collaborative meetings

The Face Up Table helps to deliver the ultimate collaborative, multi-touch conference room table.

To ensure an optimum user experience, like one would get from a tablet computer, ITOKI sought a touch screen technology that was unaffected by accidental touches, scalable to allow multiple users to interact simultaneously, all in a bespoke design.

Zytronic touch screen technology in ITOKI for collaborative meetings

Key Information

Zytronic’s high-performance Projected Capacitive Technology (PCT™ and MPCT™) enabled developers at the Japan-based office furniture manufacturer to fulfil all of these design criteria and to create the ultimate collaborative, multi-touch conference room table, which they named Face-Up.

At the centre of the solution is a large, multi-touch screen that forms the table surface. A uniquely designed 48” ZyBrid® sensor combined with a Zytronic ZXY200™ multi-touch controller that supports up to 40 independent touch points and rapid touch detection was selected. At ITOKI’s request, Zytronic designed the touch sensor with broad, white printed borders to allow users space to rest notepads, cups, etc. and an anti-glare etched glass surface to facilitate smooth finger gliding during use.

Toshiya Nishimori, a member of ITOKI’s ICT Solution development team comments: “We design tomorrow. We design WORK-Style, and our table is a fusion with computing technology and office furniture that could not have been realised in the past. It allows for many opinions to be aired during meetings and shortens the time it takes for certain jobs like information sharing, planning, and creating, editing or sending documents. During the development phase, we checked and verified touch panels from many companies. There are few touch sensors that match our requirements and I believe that being able to partner with Zytronic has led to the improved value for our customers.”

Since its release, ITOKI’s Face-Up-Table has been highly commended on its effectiveness in face-to-face meetings. Activating discussions, its collaboration software allows document data sharing. Most importantly, when not in use, it is elegant and robust for use as a normal conference room table.
