Zytronic’s Touchscreen Multi-Touch Foil Used in UEFA European Football Championship Venue

ZYPROFILM® flexible touch sensor utilised at the Poznan Stadium in Poland

Touch sensor specialist Zytronic has confirmed that its products, supplied through local distributor Elatec, are being used by Polish display solutions provider RasterVision to bring touch functionality to the interactive museum at the Poznan Football Stadium.

With a capacity of 40,000 people, Poznan is one of the largest stadia in Poland. It recently hosted some of the group games in the European Championship. Lech Poznan, the club that resides there, has a long and illustrious history - having won the Polish league 6 times and the Polish cup twice.

The interactive museum has been designed to give its fans an entertaining and informative experience. The RasterTouch touch-enabled rear projection display system employed within the museum makes use of a 60-inch ZYPROFILM® flexible touch sensor, based on Zytronic’s proprietary Projected Capacitive Technology (PCT™). The system is designed to be mounted to the rear surface of a rigid transparent screen, then operated by touching the screen’s front surface. Using it, visitors to the museum can view pictures and watch videos covering the club’s achievements over the years. The rear projection configuration means that the image passes through the screen rather than being reflected on to it. In certain applications, this approach offers major advantages, as eye-catching and very large interactive display systems can be quickly deployed without the expense (and risk) associated with installing a large, costly LCD in a public area. Furthermore, when the exhibit or promotion has finished, the touch foil can be removed from the supporting window or substrate and potentially reused at a later date or another event.

ZYPROFILM® is flexible film touch sensing foil that incorporates a PCT™ touch sensor matrix made up of micro-fine copper capacitors, combined with an integrated rear projection film. Available in large sizes, with either an adhesive or ‘cling-film’ type front face for semi-permanent or removable applications, ZYPROFILM® is designed for temporary large form-factor, interactive digital signage applications. PCT™’s ability to detect touch through thick overlay materials such as glass or plastic makes it highly optimised for attachment to the rear surface of shop windows, screens in exhibition halls and museums, etc, where an interactive surface is required in a high profile public area.

“The RasterTouch system will allow users to go on a virtual journey, spanning from when Lech Poznan was founded over 90 years ago right up to the modern day,” states Piotr Wesołowski, Product Manager at RasterVision. “The performance that Zytronic could deliver through its PCT™ product offering ensured that we could furnish our client with a lightweight, portable, low maintenance touch-enabled display system that did not need recalibration and upheld high levels of responsiveness and accuracy.”

“ZYPROFILM® has proved itself time and time again to be an easy to implement touch sensing solution that maximizes design flexibility while exhibiting high levels of performance,” adds Ian Crosby, Sales & Marketing Director for Zytronic. “Its lightweight construction means it is easy to transport and the high degree of scalability allows display formats up to 82 inches to be given touch functionality.”
